Decision makers are often faced with complex problems that require the optimisation of several objectives. These objectives are conflicting in most of the cases. In general, real-world problems have many different viable and alternative solutions. They all meet the requirements in one way or another by maintaining a certain balance between the fulfilment of the objectives the solution has to satisfy. Solving such problems requires using methods and techniques that concurrently attempt to fulfil the objectives while meeting the requirements. Such an optimisation is generally termed multi-objective or multi-criterion. The area of research that applies the evolutionary methodology to multi-objective optimisation, which we call multi-objective evolution, is of special and growing interest. It resolves many yet-unanswered real-world questions.
The aim of this special issue is to provide a representation of the multi-objective evolution research area. We welcome papers about new trends, seminal research work, as well as interesting application results on multi-objective evolution. The topics of special interest include, but are not limited to:
Interested authors, should submit their papers before the 30th of April 2004 to the Guest Editor at nadia@eng.uerj.br. The length of the manuscripts is not critical, although the authors are required to be concise. Preferably, papers should be submitted electronically either in PDF, PS or MS-WORD format. Papers should include all illustrations, tables and figures as they need to appear in the text. For the bibliography section, please use the Harvard method of referencing. The first page should contain the title, the authors names, their affiliations, e-mails, the corresponding author and the classification of the paper in one of the following categories: research in progress, completed research or a case study. The second page should contain only the title (without the authors), an abstract, up to 5 keywords followed by the rest of the paper. The format of the finally accepted papers will be communicated to the corresponding author.
The reviews are expected to be completed by the end of 30th of September 2004. The authors will then be notified about any changes suggested by the reviewers. The revised papers in a camera-ready form are expected to be received from the authors by the 29th of October 2004.
Prior to sending submissions, please credit one or both Guest Editors with an up-to-200- word abstract. Should you need further details, please do not hesitate to contact the Guest Editor at nadia@eng.uerj.br.
